Flash Flood Watch, Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 1:21 PM MST Jan. 15, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until midnight MST
tonight...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of north central and west central Arizona, including
the following areas, Coconino Plateau, Grand Canyon country,
Yavapai County mountains and Yavapai County valleys and basins.

* Until midnight MST tonight

* areas of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected through this
evening. Portions of Yavapai County have already received from 1
to 3 inches of rainfall so far today. Some areas may receive an
additional 1 inch of rain through this evening. High flows are
occurring on several streams in the Bradshaw Mountains this
afternoon.

* Expect elevated water levels in creeks, streams, and washes
today with flooding possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that developing conditions may lead to
flash flooding within the watch area.

People... especially those located along area creeks... rivers or
other flash flood prone areas... should continue to monitor
forecasts and be prepared to take immediate action should flash
flood warnings be issued.

The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has extended the

* small stream flood advisory for...
Yavapai County in west central Arizona...

* until 800 PM MST Tuesday

* at 110 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause
small stream flooding in the advisory area. Up to three inches of
rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Chino Valley, Prescott Valley, Prescott, Congress, Walnut Grove,
Poland Junction, Yarnell, Iron Springs, Crown King, Peeples
Valley, Wilhoit, Kirkland, Castle Hot Springs and Walker.

Additional rainfall of up to one inch is expected
over the area through 5 PM MST, followed by decreasing showers.
This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

This includes the following streams and drainages... Hassayampa
river... upper little Sycamore wash... Granite creek... French
Creek... arrastra creek... North Fork cellar Springs creek... whipsaw
creek... Wilder creek... Santa Maria river... Strickland
wash... Contreras wash... board creek... Spring Creek... Smith Canyon...
Rock Creek... Miller Wash... Cottonwood Creek... Stinson wash...
Spencer Creek... Mescal creek... Bridle Creek... Logan wash...
Lynx creek... Black Butte wash... Bullard Wash... east Antelope
Creek... and Miller Creek.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper
than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough
to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads, make
the smart choice: turn around, don't drown.
