Inland Nassau Severe Watches & Warnings NOAA Weather Radio

Watches & Warnings

Special Statement
Issued: 7:39 AM EDT Apr. 26, 2017 – National Weather Service

... Areas of smoke continue today...

A smoke plume from the west Mims wildfire in the Okefenokee
National Wildlife Refuge will continue to impact inland portions
of Nassau as well as most of Brantley, Charlton, Ware, Camden,
and Glynn counties throughout Wednesday. Locally low visibilities
from the smoke are expected on area roadways, generally east and
northeast of the ongoing wildfire. Visibilities in these locations
may be reduced to 1-3 miles at times.

Although the general public may not be affected... children,
pregnant women, the elderly, and those that have heart or lung
disease are especially vulnerable to smoke exposure. Fine
particles are respiratory irritants, and exposures to high
concentrations can cause persistent cough, phlegm, wheezing, and
difficulty breathing.
