The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a high rip
current risk, which is in effect from 7 am CDT this morning
through Monday morning.

* Where... Gulf beaches of Alabama and northwest Florida.

* Impacts... frequent life-threatening rip currents are expected.
The surf is dangerous for all levels of swimmers... .

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents. Rip currents are life-
threatening to anyone entering the surf. Swim near a lifeguard.
If caught in a rip current remain calm. Don't fight the current.
Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. If tired,
float or tread water until out of the rip current.





Heat Advisory

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CDT this evening...

* heat index values... ranging between 108 and 112 degrees.

* Impacts... the combination of hot temperatures and high
humidity may result in heat stress or heat related illness.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected of 103 to 104 degrees or heat indices of 108 to 112. The
combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to
create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
