The Flood Warning continues for
the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau
* until further notice.
* At 8:30 PM Wednesday the stage was 38.5 feet.
* Flood stage is 32.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 39.0 feet by
Friday morning then begin falling.
* Impact... at 38.0 feet... the flood gate at Broadway closes.

Friday morning...

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of southern Illinois, southwest
Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri, including
the following areas, in southern Illinois, Alexander, Edwards,
Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Jefferson,
Johnson, Massac, Perry IL, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, Union,
Wabash, Wayne IL, white, and Williamson. In southwest Indiana,
Gibson, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. In
western Kentucky, Ballard, Caldwell, Calloway, Carlisle,
Crittenden, Daviess, Fulton, Graves, Henderson, Hickman,
Hopkins, Livingston, Lyon, Marshall, McCracken, McLean, Trigg,
Union KY, and Webster. In southeast Missouri, Bollinger,
Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Mississippi, New Madrid, Perry
MO, Ripley, Scott, Stoddard, and Wayne MO.

* From 7 am CDT this morning through Friday morning

* a couple rounds of showers and scattered thunderstorms will
impact the Heartland through tonight. Rainfall totals of 2 to 3
inches should be widespread across much of the area. Locally
higher amounts up to 4 inches are possible.

* Rains of this magnitude in a short period of time may result in
flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas. Flash flooding is
also possible in locations that receive locally heavier rain
associated with thunderstorms.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
