Heat Advisory
Issued: 10:03 AM CDT Jul. 15, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...

* temperature... highs temperatures will be near 95 with heat
index values near or slightly above 105 degrees.

* Impacts... conditions will make it difficult to cool down and
increase the risk of heat related illness. Elderly, Young
children and those with limited access to air conditioning
will be most susceptible to heat stress. Strenuous outdoor
activities should be avoided.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency, call 9 1 1.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
may lead to heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an
air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives
and neighbors.

... A strong thunderstorm will affect southeastern Leake... western
Newton... northeastern Scott and southwestern Neshoba counties until
245 PM CDT...

At 205 PM CDT, meteorologists were tracking a strong thunderstorm
near Conehatta, or near Prospect, moving northwest at 20 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm.

This strong thunderstorm will be near...
Conehatta around 210 PM CDT.
Prospect around 220 PM CDT.
Steele around 235 PM CDT.

Other locations impacted by this storm include lake and Sebastopol.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

High winds can bring down trees and large limbs resulting in serious
injury or property damage. Exercise extreme caution when outdoors
during such strong winds... and be especially aware of older trees.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
