Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 11:44 AM EDT Jul. 20, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 PM EDT
Sunday...

* location... Mid-Hudson River Valley, southern Taconics, and
Litchfield County in Connecticut.

* Heat index values... around 110 due to temperatures in the upper
90s, and dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s.

* Timing... through Sunday.

* Impacts... heat illnesses likely for those spending prolonged
periods of time outdoors or in non-air conditioned locations.
Prolonged heat is most dangerous for Young children and the
elderly. Car temperatures can reach lethal temperatures in
minutes. Temperatures will remain very warm and muggy Saturday
night, preventing non-air conditioned buildings from cooling
off.

Precautionary/preparedness actions... an excessive heat warning
means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures
will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat
illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-
conditioned room... stay out of the sun... and check up on
relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
