Winter Storm Warning

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 PM EST this

* what... heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow
accumulations of 3 to 6 inches and ice accumulations ranging
from less than a tenth of an inch along and east of Interstate
95 to between a tenth and a quarter inch northwest of Interstate
95. The highest snow and ice amounts are most likely in the
northern and western suburbs of Washington DC.

* Where... the District of Columbia and portions of central
Maryland and central and northern Virginia.

* When... until 7 PM EST this evening. Snowfall rates around 1 inch
per hour are expected through late this morning. Snow will
change to sleet and freezing rain between 11 am and 1 PM late
this morning into this afternoon. Rain will continue to freeze
on some surfaces through late this afternoon before changing to
all rain this evening.

* Additional details... travel will be very difficult, especially
during the morning commute. The hazardous conditions could
also impact the evening commute. The combined weight of snow,
sleet and freezing rain could result in downed branches and
isolated power outages.

When venturing outside, watch your first few steps taken on
steps, sidewalks, and driveways, which could be icy and slippery,
increasing your risk of a fall and injury.
