Guy sounds like Fred Flintstone. Them monster deer flies or Horse Flies as we call 'em are like Chinook helicopters but sneakier. How do they get a chunk of flesh out without us noticing?
We have another treat when you make it up here: we call them "NoSeeUms". These aptly named hoards can somehow bite your feet in a zipped up down sleeping bag.
Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch
I am sure that the things growing out of the vents were merely magic mushrooms, and perhaps that, coupled with the official sounding stuff that he posted earlier may explain his absence.
Or the last.
Good reading material for the morning, and a fishball recipe to boot!
Signing off for the night.
Sleep well my friends!
62*F in Macon this morning, 98% humidity.
Looks like I am going to get wet digging this morning.
Once that's done I can start filling them up again. :)
After that, the last 40 bags of Brown Mulch in the landscape areas.
I might be finished before the June 1st deadline after all.
Better get started.
I bought a fishing licence the other day after my nephew sent us some fresh caught cod. We used that recipe and the result made me want to go fishing.
Though cod keeps well in the fridge or on ice there is a special "Ambrosia" that is gone after the first few hours. I caught one Ling but it was only about 20" long and I think the limit is 2'. Put it back to grow up a bit. In those days (mid 70s) we fished and caught mostly Ling and Red Snapper regularly - there was no licence required for salt water then. I had a 35' "Double-ender" with a "C" licence. Now it's about 35$ CDN to fish legally and it's hard to catch enough to justify the expense so you mainly get a day out drifting around with some friends. I'lll try to post a picture of the 110 pound Halibut I caught a few years ago near Bella Bella.
but I am done for today!
Finished digging the left planter, and put 30 bags of good stuff split between the two planters,
when my back sent a message to my brain saying "Tell that BOZO to stop or he will be sorry later".
I actually listened this time. :)
Will finish tomorrow.
Time for lunch and then a nap. :)
See you all later.
Sorry so late checking in. Long Vidconference this am.
Now I'm wiped out...don't want to look at a screen...or even think. Gonna take some lunch outside and get some fresh air.
YCD,
Interesting. Looking forward to your fish pics.
RTL,
Good that you listened to you back.
Also, thanks for the heads up on pottery.
Thought that maybe a bandersnatch got him.
Back later.
How very strange!
I was in here a couple of times, and could have sworn that I left a Particularly Poignant Point or two....
But, alas, I am once again under a Misconcieved Misconception of Mammoth Magnitude.
Funny how this seems to be happening a lot recently....
All is well!
Except for my left little toe, which, although encased at the time (in an impractical bit of footwear, obviously,) was the destination of a falling tree-trimmer-pole which has removed a substantial portion of said foot-pinkie.
Had almost completed the morning's task of removing BirdVine from the top of some cherry trees, when (NEVER work when yer tired, son!) the pole leapt away from me and came to rest at Ground Zero which was where toe was hanging out.
Worst part of it is, that I had to carry out all the First Aid procedures myself, due to the temporary absence of you-know-who.
Having someone pour Savlon into an open wound is horribly painful.
Having to do it yourself is even worse...
Bite on a bullet, they say.
All is well now.
But these kinds of Silly accidents remind us (too late, alas) how easy it is to get hurt.
Oh well.
We live and we (don't) learn. LOL.
(I would appreciate NO mention of my sometimes strange choice of footwear, if you don't mind!);))
Oh, man! I just had this premonition that something was going to bite you! Never imagined that it would be something so mundane as a garden tool!
Hope you are mended soon.
Sorry to be kinda anti-social today...just burned out!
Ouch my good man, really ouch!
OK, I won't mention your strange footware.
But I will recommend that if you ever go outside again,
that you wear "WORK CLOTHES",
not "Island" stuff. :)
Do you want to borrow my "Grumpy" hat from Disney World? :)
LOL
Thanks,
Ain't grumpy...just tired.
And it's only Tuesday!
Yeah, that seems to be my daily condition lately.
At some point these sore muscles are supposed to stop complaining aren't they?
12 more bags of mushroom compost in the front planters tomorrow
and SugarBear can start planting green thingies in there.
Then there is only 40 bags of brown mulch to spread and that is it.
Yeah, dream on Snake, dream on. :)
Have already lost 2" off my waistline in the last 30 days.
If I lose another 2" I'll have to buy all new jeans.
The 38" jeans are baggy as hell now!
I think its time for a nap.
See you tomorrow.
BRILLIANT !!
I will get a set-up like that in the morning.
Toe is throbbing and stuff. But I will survive to fight/lose another battle, for sure.
Going to take a painkiller, put on a sock ("I hope you don't bleed on my sheets, you know!" was the gentle hint....) and slink off to bed.
Y'all take care!
Will be as good as new in a jiffy!
Dam thing is, I HAVE all the "right" shoes and stuff.
Just did not expect that my toe would be attacked from above.
for the arcers and arcettes
Hey Rob, looks like more storms moving in off the GOM.
Hope you are feeling better today.
You too Pottery!
Have to go give blood this morning at 0700 hrs.
No coffee or food before the test.
You talk about grumpy. :)
Will take my big cup with me and chug a lug the coffee on the way home.
I will have an extra cup for you, Snakeymon!
I am off to the Liscensing Office, to get a "Certificate of Ownership" for my truck.
Has to do with transferring ownership from the now-defunct Company to me.
The Liscensing Office is one of those institutions that was set up in the 1930's or so, has never changed, is rife with corruption and graft, and is almost impossible to get anything done in.
It promises to be 'one of those days' that we read about in bad reviews written by people who think that the World can change for the better.
What a silly idea....
P.S., it's raining.
How very unusual.
BAH !
Pottery lost blood, RTL needs to give some away, Pottery has extra coffee, RTL wants coffee.
I think you guys could probably work something out.
Yeah, supposed to be rainy here today.
Will either be cloudy and dry, or blow like a fury.
We shall see.
A little different take on a great tune.
Thanks!
HIP HIP HOORAY. HIP HIP HOORAY, HIP HIP HOORAY.
Thank you, thank you, thank you very much.
The front planters are now finished.
SugarBear can now plant little green thingies to her hearts content.
Snakeymon is taking tomorrow off. :)
I am now heading to Lowes to buy a new 50' water hose for the back yard.
Apparently some BOZO ran over it with his lawn tractor. :(
No, don't ask me how, I don't have a clue.
It was lurking in the grass.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Wow, how much blood did they take from you?
You know you shouldn't operate equipment with sharp spinning things if you're a quart low.
:o)
Yes, you should indeed take a day off.
You've earned it.
(doesn't mean you'll get it, but...Good Luck!)
I'm gonna watch Safe House, then maybe take a short nap. After that, I'm gonna put a roast on the BBQ long enough to get some good flavor in it, then finish it up in the oven with potatoes, carrots, onions, and mushrooms. It's big enough that I'll probably turn the rest into beef stew tomorrow.
Maybe ought to bake some bread too...
LOL
Angie works late tonight so probably not until after 8.
Enjoy!
LOLOL
Good summary of the Existing Conditions on the Blood Front.
But I am replacing mine with Beverages of a Distilled nature (later, of course...)
Sorry to learn of the Hose Debacle, Snake.
They do tend to lurk about in the grass, don't they?
Successful morning in the Licencing Dept.
But I did see an Official looking sign that says-- verbatim...
"Members of the public are hereby advised that the practice of requesting registration numbers has ceased. This has become necessary because of the abuse of this facility and to prevent vehicles of being registered with the same registration number".
I am very happy to know this, although I am at a loss to know what it actually means...
It's still raining, don't you know?
Finished the movie.
Time to make fire.
I'm supposed to have frozen bread dough in the freezer, but it appears that I do not.
Wasn't counting on making bread from scratch...scratch the nap.
I'm a good cook, but not really into the whole Betty Crocker thing. Still...I suppose it's better than driving into town.
Have located errant dough. It somehow (magically?) had mysteriously migrated to the lesser freezer. Odd how often things like that happen around here!
About time to put it in the oven.
See y'all later!
Not many people do that any more, makes the whole house smell wonderful!
Movie night tonight and then early to bed.
Have a great evening, see you bananna. :)
What an Incredible Sky, tonight.
Have not seen the stars for a long time with this cloud sitting overhead for what seems like months.
But tonight, tonight,
I've seen the Stars tonight,
And etc etc to the tune of West Side Story.
Y'all have a Good Night
Going to watch the last part of "The Promise". Good Stuff, but a bit gruesome in parts.
the house and deck both smell Magnifique!
Next time you are in Publix, look for something called Ready dough. Not quite as good as from scratch, but very handy for nights when Angie is working late and I don't have the heart to ask her stop and pick up some bread.
Clouds to the left of me, boomers to the right, here I am,
stuck in the middle with dew!
(might get a shower or two in a bit.)
No stars here tonight.
:o(
Not sure what movie...there are at least 4 called the promise.
Nevertheless, enjoy my friend!
See you tomorrow!
As RTL likes to say:
Hasta Bandanna!
So, that's the update...rest easy friends!
Pretty damp around here.
Don't know yet how much rain we got. Will check after the sun comes up. Deck is wet, dog isn't happy about that...no place to lay down.
Need more coffee...
A long (4 parts) drama to do with Palestine/Israel in the days just after the War, and currently.
Puts the Jews in a different perspective. Not a good one either.
Thought-provoking and intriguing.
POURING down here for the last 45 mins. About 1.5" I guess.
Like your dog, I am not going outside to look at the total until it stops.
Cisterns are overflowing and making loud gurgling noises.
Gurgling cisterns! Now that is interesting!
I guess you and RTL will both have the day off from garden duties. Enjoy! It won't last long.
PS.
You should get a recording of the cisterns, plug it into a sampler, and make music with it!
Little rain cloud parked itself over us and dropped some here too.
Had a really bad storm come by South of us last night.
Hit downtown Macon with 60mph winds and hail and lots of trees down.
Macon has approx 175,000 Yoshino Cherry Trees.
They only bloom for about two weeks in the spring.
They lose a lot of limbs in high winds though.
Kids and Grands are coming over for dinner tonight, Grandpa is making Cuban Garlic Pork Medallions with black beans and rice. Takes 20 cloves of garlic. That's a lot of garlic. :)
The Mission today is to go to the VAT office, to get an official stamp on a document that states the Value of my truck.
I am transferring it from the business to me.
Which means that I have to pay 15% of the assessed value to the VAT people. BAH ! It's been assessed at TT$50K (about US$8000)
Then back to the liscencing office to do the transfer.
Ho Hum !
Not good.
Just tapering off here now.
Was like a waterfall there for a while !
