A few last moments..............

By: WatchinTheSky , 5:19 PM GMT on March 17, 2017

We took a Thursday drive out to the desert to see how super the Super Bloom was. Seemed like a good reason to take a hooky day off from work ;-) I had no interest in fighting the weekend crowds that were reportedly massive.

Apparently, the blooms are attracting more than just people out to the desert! New desert critters ;-)

OK, here's where we went - Lovely morning, 80s to low 90s.

Yes, it's a desert!

Some of the floral carpet :-)

Poppies, not California poppies and not the masses that go on for miles - but very nice!

Little native bee happy to see so many blooms.

Ghost flower, I was sure this was a type of monkeyflower (mimulus), but apparently not.

Chuparosa

Lots of lupines!

Don't know what these little ones are, probably cal will recognize ;-)

Really had a nice time checking out the blooms - larger ones, tiny ones. There is concern that the 'super bloom' will be ended when the caterpillar population spikes from the abundant food source and they cats eat all the plants! I didn't see any caterpillars where we went.

And of course ;-)

I saw on a blog I seldom see that they said 1 pm Eastern time. I don't know if they are correct. I, too, wish they would just cut the cord at this point. Long good-byes are hard. But, I will still see you around! Bye!

Still there I see him too! There were suppose to cut the blogs off at 12 noon, so not sure whether that is PST since they were/are located in San Fran.

Wish they would just do it and get it over with, LOL!

Hi jlync! I guess we get a few more minutes to reminisce before we're cut off here. A cooler day here (around 70) before warming up to 80s by Wednesday. No rain here.

Have a good week!

FB will be a tough one, although Connie is there all the time. At the very least I can have her do a friend request to you (or however that's done) and see what you have going on!

This is still sad and annoying - that this wonderful community is being deep six-ed. But thanks to Rob and Sandi and others, we still have ways to meet up and form new communities!

It's been fun, a learning experience, great sharing other's interests :-)

A big thanks and final "Hi" to all that came to check in on the hummers, orioles, and Yeti - of course!

See you all (at least most!) in the webs :-)

I forgot to mention how much your hummingbirds amazed me through the years. I have written it before, but it has been a fun experience to see all of yours! I know it must be a LOT of work for you to keep them up, but I know you feel it is worth it, and it has brought a lot of enjoyment to all of us WU'ers! So, here I will say good-bye to your hummers too! Thanks for the memories! Bye!

Hi cp, yes it all seems simple - but. I can't get photo links to work at all (flickr, photobucket) and when I load up some photos and type a little txt then place the cursor (much like WU) , I get all the text on top and photos on the bottom, as if it is doing 'after more' and not inline. I'm confused, and sure it's something simple ;-)

Hi jlync, the link worked just fine and thanks! I hope your April is a good one :-)

Hi az, birds can be fickle sometimes. Who knows what they are looking for - besides Oreos LOL

Hey GG :-) Har Har! I hope your weather is calming down and you don't have anymore trash can barf to deal with ;-)

Hi jlync! Speaking of fickle, the feeders in view on the cams used to be the hummers fave zone. Now not so much. Maybe the fact that Scooter the roadrunner hangs out over there has something to do with it. The mourning doves don't mind uz they are not a target ;-) I know the orioles like those feeders, especially the flat one with the grape jelly, but it's all timing with the cams....

Have a good day all, we are really winding down, a few days left - booo!

Hello WTS...
Fantastic Spider you have there...lurking outside your window! Fabbbbbbulous UPS Yeti, Ms Corgibird!
Saw that their were a few Pigeons on the Fencing around by the hummer feeders!
I haven't seen the Hummers though yet around your feeders! Maybe wrong timing!
Glad you like the Bug and the Lizard!
its a cutie on the flowers!
Speaking of Flowers ...I found these Beauties " Eyes to the Left" !

WTS, I have not seen any orioles this year. Last spring I just caught a glimpse of one; the two years before that saw them a couple of times. I think my house is not in their favorite habitat even though on the edge of town. When I lived out in a more country area on 3 acres of mesquite trees we saw them; sometimes we were lucky enough to see a nest in a clump of mistletoe, & they would come to the flowers of the bird of paradise (Caesalpinia) tree outside the kitchen window.

Hi az! That all sounds delightful :-) You are a bit ahead of us with the cactus and ocotillo. I'm looking forward to the desert willow in my yard blooming - but that is a ways off still. Getting orioles?

Hi jlync! Yes, that sketch was done by a very talented person (and I yes I'm talking about you, Ms Corgibird!)
What a fun garden bug, colorful as well!

Hi WW :-) You know the Yeti artist (not me, for sure! Wish I could do that well, maybe a project if I ever retire LOL). It's 'signed' in the lower left corner. We are well into the boring weather season here, I'm afraid. Blue skies, light to no winds, 70s. As long as summer does not get here too soon, I guess that's OK. I have signed up on The Ark and sandi's and Katy's WU alternatives - but just a few comments and lurking so far. Just haven't had time to start the first new blog..

Hey GG! Yes, 4 years - does not seem near that long. And I'm with you, I don't remember the contest either - but sure glad I won :-) He's one of my favorite bits of art and is next to my desk at work.

Speaking of next to me at work -

Just outside my window - for anyone not fond of spiders - not inside. Quite the outlay of silk it has going on!

Wow. Can't believe Yeti came to be in 2013. So much has happened in between I can't even remember what the contest was where you won the Yeti.
Yeti was born in that elegant space between the electrons of imagination and digi art. The crinkle paper came from PikMonkey. Technically by printing Yeti you created the first real world version.

Yep, You know me. I did get the scoop on the artist. Now, I need the scoop on the Yeti sketch artist. Quite the talented one. Neat sketch and I am taking for granted that it is you unless you tell me different. LOVe.

One of those days here. look out and street wet, street dries and next time look out street wet, etc forth We had some strong storms, here. We must have had some real pour downs and we had a fairly heady rain around 3 this afternoon, too. For some reason everything seems mighty wet. I out front. Even checked to see if water hose was on....NOPE, just wet from rain, I guess. Guess the grass will really pop out now and those little golden dandelions. I have been clipping and pinching the blossoms as I see them. However, neighbors on neither side are not doing that - so you know what that means.....lots of puffs blowing seed puffs all over everywhere about next week. Oh, well, yellow and green and puffs I guess. Have a good evening. Hope you are migrating over to the Ark or are you on Word Press?

S. AZ desert is beautiful now . . . acacia & palo verde trees & ocotillos blooming, wildflowers (mostly brittlebush & desert marigolds), saw a patch of cactus in someone's front yard in full bloom the other day. In town the bougainvilleas have been amazing this year; they are always lovely but they are so covered with flowers in some cases you can't even see the leaves. We had a brief thunderstorm blow through around 2 a.m. today.

Hi jlync! I will have to zip over to flickr and check out your lizzie, fun to watch them sunning :-)

Hey sandi :-) Yes, abominable snowman, bigfoot. yeti! Actually, I guess bigfoot is usually dark - less snow in the states, although Pacific northwest does get snowy ;-) I think it is just the avocados that keep them in this area LOL

Hey GG! 5 for you, 3am here - ok for yetis, a little early for orioles LOL 9am now but still no orioles on cam, in fact no birds at all, hmm, maybe a sharpie somewhere?

Hi cp :-) yes - 46 this morning, cool for us! Sounds like it should be a good year for sphinx moths! I really need to buy a couple nice plants for the moths if they come around. I know they like penstemons! Now what were we talking about? LOL

Love the Yetis!!! You have a bit of a chill in the air at your place!!!

The cats we saw in Afton Canyon were all Spinx moths, a couple different varieties but all with that nice horn on their butts, LOL! And very large cats they were! I had the name of that pretty daisy flower and now I have forgotten it, will have to go back and look. We saw them in Afton canyon also. My mind is becoming rather like a sieve lately, LOL!

Hi Sandi, yes! Must be something going on up in the avocado grove ;-)

I see cam 1 caught an oriole at a feeder, We're getting a good group and already fledglings are being shown the feeders by the parents! So much fun watching/hearing them and their antics :-)

Hi WW! Pretty sure the last one was a bog raven. Did not get to see the pupfish pond, so much to see, so little time! I see you got the scoop on the artist ;-)

Hey GG! Almost shocking (no Orioles) LOL The oriole crowd seems to be increasing, but of course they're not alway in front of the cams!

Hi jlinc :-) practically no rain here either, a tiny chance for Saturday but as the days go by, the chance for rain plummets. Oh well.

Hi Tony! Not something that we consider much here, but you're quite right - as long as temps are below freezing, you stay dry, just chilly! Here we don't often worry about wet or cold, a bit boring ;-) Glad you got a good walk in!

Hi cp :-) I didn't hear about the Swainson's but I have heard now is a good hawk watch time there. Oh, Sphinx moths! Beloved them, need to get something blooming that will attract them. Amazing how Nature generally balances things out, too many caterpillars and birds come in to feast ;-)
