Watches & Warnings

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 10:43 AM PDT Sep. 15, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning now in effect until 9 am PDT Monday for
portions of far northeast California and northern Washoe County
for strong winds and low humidity...

* changes... earlier end to warning.

* Affected area... fire zone 270 Surprise Valley California, fire
zone 271 western Lassen/eastern Plumas/eastern Sierra/eastern
Nevada counties, fire zone 278 eastern Lassen County and fire
zone 458 northern Washoe County.

* Winds... southwest to west 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph,
locally to 45 mph in wind-prone areas, into this evening. Winds
in valley locations may diminish to around 10 mph tonight but
mid slopes and ridges will continue to see strong winds
overnight.

* Humidity... minimum 8 to 14% this afternoon with poor to moderate
recovery tonight. Humidities will rise significantly Monday
morning.

* Duration... 6 to 12 hours. Localized mid slope locations may
see up to 18 hours.

* Impacts... the combination of gusty winds and low humidity can
cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

This is a particularly dangerous situation through this evening
for the foothills and wind-prone spots along the Highway 395
corridor, with extremely low humidity and strong winds. New fires
will grow rapidly out of control, in some cases people may not be
able to evacuate safely in time should a fire approach.

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry
vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.Gov/Reno for
updates and livingwithfire.Info for preparedness tips.
