Whiteout conditions were reported in the area at the time of the crash.

"An upper-level disturbance is moving across Lower Michigan Friday morning, which has produced snow showers across the region," said meteorologist Linda Lam. "Bands of moderate to heavy snow are also possible due to lake enhancement. A burst of heavy snow moved through eastern Jackson County around 10 a.m. EST, resulting in significantly reduced visibility."
