Issued: 12:19 PM AKDT Aug. 21, 2019 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Anchorage has issued a

* flood advisory for...
Kenai Lake and the Kenai River from Cooper Landing to Skilak Lake

* until 1215 PM akdt Friday.

* The snow Glacier dammed lake is releasing at this time. Water
   levels on the snow river are steadily rising and are reflective
   of previous outburst events. Expect a significant water level
   increase on Kenai Lake through the weekend.

* Water may continue to rise on Kenai Lake and the Kenai River
   through the weekend and early next week.

* Water levels on the Kenai River below Skilak Lake will likely see
a more moderate increase to bankfull conditions by early next week.

* There is considerable uncertainty of water volumes released and
drain rates during glacial dammed lake outbursts. Please check
back for updates at the Alaska-Pacific river forecast center
website: www.Weather.Gov/aprfc/

* some locations that will experience flooding include...
Cooper Landing, Kenai Lake.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

... Dense smoke advisory remains in effect until 1 PM akdt this
afternoon for the interior Kenai Peninsula...

* location... interior Kenai Peninsula, including the Sterling
Highway corridor from Sterling to Cooper Landing.

* Smoke... smoke from the Swan Lake fire will reduce visibilities
to one quarter mile or less at times.

* Timing... through early this afternoon.

* Impacts... travel may be difficult due to low visibility.
Persons with respiratory problems may have difficulty
breathing when outside. For more information on air quality,
please visit www.Dec.Alaska.Gov.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A dense smoke advisory means widespread fires will create smoke,
limiting visibilities. If driving, slow down, use your headlights,
and leave plenty of distance ahead of you in case a sudden stop
