Watches & Warnings

Lake Wind Advisory
Issued: 4:01 AM PDT Sep. 16, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM PDT this
evening for Lake Tahoe...

* changes: none.

* Winds: southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 40 mph.

* Wave heights: 2 to 4 feet, highest from mid-lake to northeast
shores.

* Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to
capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions
improve.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a
sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing
boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind.

Fire Weather Warning
Issued: 1:11 PM PDT Sep. 16, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Red flag warning remains in effect until 6 PM PDT this evening
for Mono and eastern alpine counties for strong winds and low
humidity...

* changes... none.

* Affected area... fire zone 273 Mono and eastern alpine counties.

* Winds... .a strong cold front will bring southwest to west
winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts between 35 and 45 mph through
this afternoon. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph are possible in
wind prone areas.

* Humidity... minimum 10 to 20%.

* Duration... 4-8 hours today.

* Impacts... the combination of gusty winds and low humidity can
cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

This is a particularly dangerous situation for the foothills and
wind-prone spots along the Highway 395 corridor, with low
humidity and high winds. New fires may grow rapidly out of
control, in some cases people may not be able to evacuate safely
in time should a fire approach.

Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry
vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.Gov/Reno for
updates and livingwithfire.Info for preparedness tips.
