Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 3:27 AM CDT Jul. 17, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to
7 PM CDT Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued an
excessive heat warning, which is in effect from 1 PM this
afternoon to 7 PM CDT Saturday. The excessive heat watch is no
longer in effect.

* Temperature... the combination of temperatures in the 90s and
dewpoints in the 70s will produce daytime heat index values of
100 to 110 degrees. Overnight lows will remain warm in the
middle 70s to near 80.

* Impacts... heat-related illnesses may occur due to the
prolonged period of heat and humidity.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and
check up on relatives and neighbors.
