Watches & Warnings

Heat Advisory
Issued: 2:28 PM EDT Jul. 18, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Heat advisory in effect from noon Friday to 8 PM EDT
Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Burlington has issued a heat
advisory, which is in effect from noon Friday to 8 PM EDT
Saturday.

* Locations... Champlain and Saint Lawrence valleys.

* Heat index values... 96 to 102 degrees, due to temperatures in
the lower to mid 90s, and dewpoints in the lower 70s.

* Timing... the highest heat index values will occur between noon
and 5 PM on Friday and Saturday.

* Impacts... the high heat index values pose a significant risk
for heat stress and heat-related illness for everyone,
especially those vulnerable populations without air
conditioning and those spending significant time outdoors.
Heat-related illnesses can occur very quickly. Pets are also
susceptible to heat illness. Additionally car interiors can
reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room,
stay out of the sun, and check in on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible
and drink plenty of water.
