Found this little fellow underneath a bale of pine needles, a cool, moist spot during hot summer weather.

Thank you, Marijka and Cruiser! This little guy was out in the open once I had taken the bale off him; anyway, salamanders are not quite as quick as lizards on dry land. Geckos I'm sure are another story, more like the fence swifts we also have here.

Nice. Yeah, I was wondering if he was cold and that is how you caught him, but have no experience with salamanders...just lizards which are super fast. -kevin :)

Kevin, these salamanders are not nearly so swift on their feet as lizards are; it was more like catching a toad or turtle. So long as they're not in the water, you have a good chance of being able to pick them up.
