Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 2:27 PM AKDT Aug. 16, 2019 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
the Salcha river, including small streams and creeks...

* until 130 PM akdt Sunday.

Around 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen across portions of the
Salcha river basin since Thursday. Additional rainfall amounts of
one quarter of an inch to one half of an inch are likely over the
region through early Saturday morning.

* The ground is saturated from recent rain and river levels are
expected to continue to rise, entering into flood stage Saturday
morning. Additionally, small streams and creeks in the basin will
continue to experience rapid rises. The upper Salcha is expected
to experience impacts through the weekend, with increasing water
level rises expected at the Richardson Highway bridge, currently
forecast to crest early Sunday morning at 16.8 feet.

* People along the Salcha river should prepare for high water and
flooding. Some Cabins and private property will be impacted.
Comparisons to the Salcha River Crest in 2014 was slightly above
18 feet. Expect gravel bars to be inundated, with increased debris
to be moving down the river and significant erosion along some
riverbanks.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
People traveling on the Salcha river are urged to monitor water
levels. Do no Camp or park vehicles on gravel bars because they will
be flooded.

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
the chena river basin upstream of the Moose Creek dam including
the little chena.

* Until 130 PM akdt Sunday.

* Over 2 inches of rain has fallen across portions of the chena
basin since Thursday. Heavy rain will begin to diminish this
evening. Additional rainfall amounts of around one quarter of an
inch are possible in the warned area.

* Water levels are expected to continue to rise in the upper chena
tonight and Saturday and reach flood stage by this evening and may
crest around 21.5 feet at Two Rivers Saturday afternoon.

* People along the upper chena river should prepare for high water
and flooding, including the chena river Recreation Area. Flooding
will be likely along Chena Hot Springs Road near mile marker 37.
Campgrounds and boat launches along the river will be inundated.
Granite tors, Stiles creek, and other low lying areas will also be
flooded. Increased debris is expected to move downriver and
significant erosion is possible along riverbanks.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All
interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 1:49 PM AKDT Aug. 17, 2019 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a

* flood advisory for minor flooding in poor drainage areas for...
Tanana river from Fairbanks to east of the Tanana town site...

* until 145 am akdt Tuesday.

* At 149 PM akdt, gauge reports indicated rising waters on the
Tanana at Fairbanks. Rainfall over the past 48 hours of 2 to 4
inches of rain have fallen in areas over the Tanana river basin.

Low lying areas along the Tanana river also including the Rosie
Creek Subdivision in Fairbanks are the most likely places to
experience minor flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
